Moving on to Ushuaia

view of bay and Perito Moreno Glacier

We have spent a marvellous time in El Calafate.  Part of travelling is also meeting people and getting to know them; the sad part is saying goodbye, knowing you might never see one another again.  On our trip so far we have been so fortunate to have met some wonderful people and to have enjoyed really good times together.

We leave early tomorrow morning, 3am to be exact, for Ushuaia.  The trip is long and includes 2 border crossings with Chile and a ferry ride before arriving at the most southern town in the world.  It’s high season right now, so places are packed and accommodation is scarce.  Fortunately we have a place booked for Thursday and Friday night.

Paul and Sandy, from Canada who we met here in El Calafate are arriving in Ushuaia on Saturday and we’ll see about finding a cabin to rent together for a couple of days.  The big talk here at the moment is the possibility of getting a last minute ticket on one of the expedition ships to Antarctica.  Barry is super excited about this possibility and I’m looking at the budget….but as we keep saying to one another, “When will we ever get an opportunity to do this in our lives again?”  So let’s wait and see what happens…very exciting.
