Do You Think I’m Still Worried about Safety & Security?

tight as a drum

I think most South Africans can identify with the concern for safety and security.  This certainly was a huge concern of mine while living there.  I guess some things never change do they?

So far we have stayed in a variety of establishments with varying degrees of privacy and security.  My first question on arrival is, “how safe is it?”  The answer in most cases has been, not to worry at all, our things are completely safe with the locals….it’s the tourists we need to worry about!

So just for good measure, and in no way a reflection on the locals, but rather the tourists, we have brought with us a strong wire cable and a padlock which we manage to wrap through our bags and tie it to the nearest imovable object.  In this case it was the headboard of the bed…in reality, if someone really wants something, nothing is going to stop them, but we’ll try to make it a little more difficult for them to get away with the goods.  In this case, they might have to take the bed with them 🙂
