DINNER GUEST

Dinner Guest

We sit at the kitchen table and gaze out of the open doors

Suspended like a soothing throat lozenge
The sphere of liquid gold
Slowly drips its way onto the cushion of a velvet, blue horizon

Darkness leaks in
Candlelight snuffs out the blackness

Conversations propagate like alfalfa sprouts
And laughter oozes between the open spaces

Garlic, ginger and spicy seasonings
Punctuate the senses
Embalming the cracked autumn air with aromatic fragrances

He visits often – our neighbour – sometimes for tea
Or just a chat
Tonight we’ll have dinner…and tomorrow we’ll have tea
At the little kitchen table and gaze out of the open doors
